Mark Friis, Owner/Operator of Wheel Tales has been a lifetime cyclist and cycling enthusiast. Mark will be making a presentation on his upcoming 2020 calendar of events. Wheel Tales pricing is less than 1/2 the costs of other cycling travel tours. If you have ever thought about going on an amazing out of state cycling adventure, then you don't want to miss this meeting. There will also be plenty of time for Q &A's during the meeting.

Each Tour is unique from terrain to length. MIles average about 65 miles but the elevation gain varies tremendously. There are exceptions like the Sierra Challenge, but most tours are accessible for the average rider. We welcome all abilities with the understanding that sometimes the SAG van will need to utilize to make sure as many riders are supported. As everyone soon realizes these trips are more about the time spent off the saddle than in.

These adventures are about so much more than the rides. We take the time to visit local establishments, especially breweries, wineries, and eateries. Taking part in the local environment and supporting those businesses that create the unique vibe is essential. Stop and stop often to enjoy yourself. Don't be surprised if we enjoy some hikes and other adventures off the bike.

One of the distinctive components of biking is you see things that other forms of travel can miss. The efficiency allows for greater distances, but the openness can give a chance to connect with the land. These tours offer so much in landscapes and roads that leave wanting more. From start to finish the outdoor experience is essential element. And even off the bike you can find more chances to connect. Lake and river swimming, beach strolls, hot springs and more.

Clint Sandusky

Corporal Clint Sandusky retired on April 3, 2016, after a 24-year career in law enforcement both with Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Riverside Community College District Police Department (RCCD PD).  While with RCCD, he served as the department’s Bike Team Coordinator and was a member of its Honor Guard, performing “taps” at various law enforcement events throughout Southern California.

Clint helped form his college department’s bike patrol team back in 1993 and rode on the team until his retirement.  Since 1994, he’s been an active CA POST-certified Bike Patrol Instructor.  During his career, he attended numerous police bicycle patrol and bicycle safety courses, seminars and conferences, and plans to continue to do so.  He joined IPMBA (International Police Mountain Bike Association) when it was part of the League of American Bicyclists and remains an active member.  He successfully completed IMPBA’s Advanced Police Cyclist Course in 2000 and IMPBA’s Police Cyclist Instructor Course in 2005.

Since 1999, Clint’s taught Bicycle Patrol Course at Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.  Additionally, he helped instruct the Basic Bike Patrol and Bike Patrol Instructors Courses at San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.  He also guest instructed at Los Angeles County Sheriff’s and Santa Monica Police Departments.  He’s had the honor of teaching at the national level at IPMBA’s Annual Conferences in Dayton, OH in 2006 and Baton Rouge, LA in 2007.

During his career, Clint participated in and put on numerous bicycle safety presentations both at RCCD and in the community, including Riverside Police Department’s “Annual Traffic Safety Fair” events.  He served on the Redlands Bicycle Classic Committee in 2003 and 2004, including the 2004 USCF National Road Race Championships (Team USA Selection Race).

During most of his cycling career, he received personal cycling coaching from Carmichael Training Systems.  He actively competes in USA Cycling amateur cross-country mountain bike races.  Since 1999, he’s competed and medaled in the cross-country mountain bike events at the now-known-as United States Police & Fire Games.  In 2011, he had the privilege and honor to compete at the World Police & Fire Games in New York City remembering the fallen heroes of “9-11.”  In 2017, The World Police & Fires Games came to Los Angeles, CA where Clint once again competed in the cross-country mountain bike and took 6th place in his age group.

In his retirement, Clint continues spending time riding, racing, teaching, attending and/or presenting at industry trade shows such as Interbike and COPSWEST, and serves in the unique capacity of bike-mounted usher at his church’s events.  In late 2016, he became a volunteer coach (NICA, Level 1 coach) for the Yucaipa High School Mountain Bike Team. Clint also coordinates and assists with adult bicycle safety presentations and training classes conducted by the ABEA (American Bicycling Education Association) and CyclingSavvy instructors--funded by a Caltrans Active Transportation Program grant.  In 2019, he began assisting Orange County Sheriff’s Department with their Basic Bike Patrol Courses.

Clint’s e-Bike (electric bicycle) experience includes owning an eMTB, racing them, and riding them at Sheriff’s Bike Patrol Courses.  He’s attended national e-Bike presentations and written 2 articles/blogs on e-Bike use (IPMBA News, Fall 2017 & CyclingSavvy Blog, 1/18).  Clint’s done e-Bike presentations to SoCal law enforcement agencies and the community.  At the 2018 and 2019 IPMBA Conferences, he presented/co-presented e-Bike workshops to instructors and general attendees.
